Support

  1. Should I be subscribed to any mailing lists?

The following NEESgrid mailing lists exist:

    • The purpose of this discussion list is to provide a mechanism for ES members to get answers from SI team members about general and specific questions. It also provides a way for ES and SI members to work together on complex issues that do not fit well into the other online discussion environments. You will hear this list referred to by NEESgrid personnel as 'the discuss list'.

Subscribing: Send a message to with "subscribe discuss" in the body.

Archives: The mailing list is archived online at http://www.neesgrid.org/lists/discuss.

    • The NEES Equipment Site Technical Forum (NEES-ES-TF) is a venue for the discussion of focused technical issues that Equipment Sites encounter.

Subscribing: Register for this workgroup at the NEES-ES-TF worktools site.

Archives: The mailing list is archived at the NEES ES-TF worktools site.

    • This list is typically used for announcements regarding NEESgrid documents and software.

Subscribing: Register for this workgroup at the NEESgrid_all worktools site.

Archives: The mailing list is archived at the NEESgrid_all worktools site.

    • This list is intended to support the Experiment-based Deployment activities within the NEES Community.

Subscribing: Register for this workgroup at the NEES-EBD worktools site.

Archives: The mailing list is archived at the NEES-EBD worktools site.

We recommend subscribing to the first three lists to stay abreast of new software updates and technical issues as they appear.

  2. I'm having trouble getting feature X to work. What should I do?

The first step is to check the installation instructions for more information. It's possible that enough people have run into your question before that it's even wound up in this FAQ. The final document you should read is the release's errata document.

You may still need a question answered after reading these documents. In that case, send your question to the discuss list and the NEESgrid SI team (or even a fellow equipment site member) will be happy to help!

  3. I think I've found a new bug! How can I be sure?

Software bugs are accounted for after a release in the release's errata document. Bugs are also tracked using the NEESgrid Bugzilla. If you can't find a mention of the bug in either of these locations, assume we don't know about it.

  4. I'm sure I've found a new bug! How do I tell the developers about it?

Entering the bug into the NEESgrid Bugzilla will create a trackable record for the bug and notify the software component's owner that a new bug has been found. Please offer as much information as possible in your initial bug report so that we can reproduce it locally, fix it in future releases, and, if necessary, dispatch a fix for the current release.

  5. How do I find documentation beyond the installation instructions?

There is much more documentation available on the NEESgrid website than just each distribution's installation instructions. One way to find this information is to browse the site's News, Events, and Documents sections. In case you don't know exactly what document you are looking for, you can use the NEESgrid website's search feature, which is accessible from the site's main page at http://www.neesgrid.org/ and is directly accessible from http://www.google.com/u/neesgrid.
